Statistically, 30% of people in Newark, NJ live in poverty or experience homelessness. According to the National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE), over 1.5 million enrolled in public school experience homelessness. During Winter, children are more susceptible to developing infections like pneumonia and hypothermia. The winter season can also become expensive for families living in poverty and has becoming increasingly difficult to afford after the global pandemic and economic crisis.

Airtech Group partnered with the WeLoveU Foundation in response to this challenging time and held a giveaway event at the elementary school on November 30^th. The Airtech Group team in Rutherford collected and donated new winter jackets, gloves and hats for the students at Michelle Obama Elementary School. Combined with other companies who participated in the winter clothing drive, all 150 students enrolled in the school were presented with warm coats for this winter season. Along with new winter coats, the volunteers wrote heartwarming notes for the students to encourage them throughout the remainder of the school year and put the notes in their pockets.

In attendance were also Deputy Superintendent Nicole Johnson, Newark Board of Education Co-Vice President Flohisha Johnson and Michelle Obama Elementary School Principal LaShanda Williams.

The International WeLoveU Foundation is a non-profit organization associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications and supports the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). With origins tracing back to the early 1990s and official launch in 2001, the WeLoveU foundation has made exceptional strides throughout the world, involving nearly 300,000 participants to volunteer in activities in more than 67 countries. Volunteers of every age and background, who share the love of a mother to the global village, work in unity to deliver hope and happiness to all people through various volunteer activities.

The team celebrated with a carnival that included popular carnival games: ring toss, high striker, bean toss and more challenging games, such as the mechanical bull ride, jousting, sumo-wrestling and soccer shootout. The participants were awarded with inflatable and stuffed animal prizes that brought out the inner children in them.  Attendees also raffled off prizes, snapped pictures at the photo booth, and enjoyed delicious food from the Tep’s Truck Treats food truck.  

From humble beginnings in 1982 with as a simple distribution company, Airtech now employs more than 115 people in their largest manufacturing facility in Rutherford, New Jersey, not to mention the extended team in California, Georgia, Maryland, Germany, Europe, Spain, and China.  Airtech has now become a leading design and manufacturer of specialty gas moving solutions. The vacuum pumps and blowers are used in a vast array of cutting-edge technologies from power generation to laboratory, medical, food production and many other essential industries.   

An anniversary like this one makes us pause and take a moment to reflect on what brought us here. Wins and losses, triumphs and struggles, long-time costumers and new opportunities, and all the adaptations and improvements the company has made. It is proof that we have successfully served our clients and team members well. Feeling nostalgic, the team stopped by and looked through old photos in our celebratory trip-down-memory-lane booth, recognizing many faces from Airtech’s beginning that are still with us today.  

Over the past 40 years, we’ve learned that the people are the most important factor in any business.  To all our customers and employees who have been with us by our side, sharing in this journey, we thank you and appreciate all your hard work and time you’ve put into the business. We’re excited to see what the future holds for all, and we welcome you to continue this journey with us!
